Waste Watchers

'Waste not, want not...'

Who are we?

We are:

  • Much more concerned about waste than trying to reduce our environmental impact
  • Likely to rate our behaviour as environmentally-responsible as Positive Greens
  • Content with our efforts to help the environment
  • More pro-environmental than average, but also more sceptical than average about the scale and urgency of environmental problems
  • Concerned about changes to the UK countryside and loss of biodiversity
  • Very committed recyclers
  • We claim the environment is a high priority, but we are least likely to feel guilty about our environmental impact
  • Our pro-environmental behaviour focuses on the home (saving energy/water), driving a fuel efficient car, buying ethical and local products

DEFRA’s research shows that we are likely to make up around 12% of your total workforce.

How can you motivate us to make changes?

To encourage us to get involved in a campaign it's better to talk to us about reducing waste and saving money rather than saving the planet. We're generally happy with our efforts to help the environment and we won’t seek other opportunities out, but we are willing to do more, so you just need to present us with solutions that are easy for us to do. We also respond well to financial or other rewards. Senior management demonstrating that they are committed and willing to participate in initiatives is also important for us if you want us to take you seriously.
